Matters like Love cannot be discovered fully by natural man so they become matters for prayer. We need the help of God Himself to know the measure of the Love to which His Word points us.
Paul in his Ephesians Epistle helps us in the following passage, which is both powerful and provocative. He leads us to pray about the dimensions in Love. The Lord Jesus introduced us to the word agápe, practically unknown outside the New Testament. it names a specific kind of Love unknown before Jesus brought it with Him from His Father in Heaven. See this passage from Ephesians 3:17-19 where Paul is leading us to pray that God would grant that we,
…being rooted and grounded in Love (agápe), may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the Love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
Using this word, Jesus directed us to a new way of living and responding in the world. Paul helps us know the meaning and value of this new way of Love. We discover it can be ours when we set our hearts toward seeking it, as we intend to do in this month of praying together. The conviction of my own heart is that this Love, which we intend to spell throughout with a capital “L,” will be the greatest force from the Kingdom of Heaven that will make us useful for that Kingdom on earth.
As the time of the end draws on, there are two Kingdom Factors the spirit of anti-Christ will seek to remove from the earth. One is LOVE. The other is FAITH. Love is the element in us that generates Faith. The spirits of anti-Christ want to see it removed. We remember that Paul said, Faith … worketh by Love (Galatians 5:6). This means, “Faith is energized, given its energy, by Love.” But Love is strong. It will abide to the end through all the pressures of this age closing. See what I Corinthians 13:8-10 says about it.
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
FOR THIS MONTH we will lay our souls
bare before Gods Word and what it says about love. We will be honest and humble as we ask Him to set our lives in order
with regard to loving. We hope to learn to hold others before the Throne
of Gods grace, asking Him to bring their lives into order in this
same regard for His Kingdom. We pray that the Love of God will gain strength in us as we proceed with this month’s discipline.
