OCTOBER 2008 Day 21
next>

That is why we keep on talking to God about you since the day we heard about you. We ask him that you may know everything he wants you to do. We ask him that you may be very wise and that the Spirit will help you to understand.
We ask him that you will live the way the Lord wants you to live, so that you will please him in everything you do. We ask that you will do everything that is good. We ask that you will see the fruit from what you do. We ask that you will know more and more about God. God has wonderful power. And we ask him to give you all the strength you need to go through all your troubles, to be very patient in them, and to be happy. Thank the Father who has made us ready to be with the people of God who live in his light.

DAY 21—By faith the weakest people become strong.

Hebrews 11:32-35And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
(MSG)
I could go on and on, but I've run out of time. There are so many more— Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, the prophets....Through acts of faith, they toppled kingdoms, made justice work, took the promises for themselves. They were protected from lions, fires, and sword thrusts, turned disadvantage to advantage, won battles, routed alien armies. Women received their loved ones back from the dead. There were those who, under torture, refused to give in and go free, preferring something better: resurrection. Others braved abuse and whips, and, yes, chains and dungeons. We have stories of those who were stoned, sawed in two, murdered in cold blood; stories of vagrants wandering the earth in animal skins, homeless, friendless, powerless—the world didn't deserve them!—making their way as best they could on the cruel edges of the world.

The writer of Hebrews stopped short of telling of all he could about people who were great examples of faith. How close have you come to being one that could be added to his list? Have you been a recipient of a miracle? How much are you in need of a miracle at this present time? What is there to hinder you from receiving a miracle in your life at this time? Does some adjustment need to be made, or, are you just very discouraged about ever having a miracle come your way?

Abraham obeyed God and discovered the power of faith.

Hebrews 11:8-12¾God called Abraham to go away to a place which he would have as his own. Because Abraham believed God, he obeyed him. He went even though he did not know where he was to go. Because he believed God, he lived like a stranger in the land God promised him. He lived in tents with Isaac and Jacob. They had the same promise he had. Abraham was looking for a city which will last for ever. It was the city God planned and made. Sarah also believed God, and she was able to have a baby even though she was too old to have children. But she trusted God to do what he had promised. Abraham was too old to be a father, but a great nation was born from that one man. They are as many as the stars in the sky and as the sands on the seaside. No man can count them. (WE)

GREAT REDEEMER, we rejoice in the grace You are bringing into our lives. Just as we are rising up in obedience to You, we are discovering new strength. I believe provision is coming even when there is no source we can see. Because of Your mercy, our lives are becoming a miracle. We know it is mercy, because we haven’t earned any merit for anything You are doing for us. Oh, we praise You! We praise You and we love You!
