OCTOBER 2008 Day 25
next>

That is why we keep on talking to God about you since the day we heard about you. We ask him that you may know everything he wants you to do. We ask him that you may be very wise and that the Spirit will help you to understand.
We ask him that you will live the way the Lord wants you to live, so that you will please him in everything you do. We ask that you will do everything that is good. We ask that you will see the fruit from what you do. We ask that you will know more and more about God. God has wonderful power. And we ask him to give you all the strength you need to go through all your troubles, to be very patient in them, and to be happy. Thank the Father who has made us ready to be with the people of God who live in his light.

DAY 25—Let’s review the way we pray.

When we desire the rule of God’s Kingdom, here is the way we may pray. All of us need a regular check-up in this dimension of our spiritual life.

Psalm 119:27, 34, 125, 144—Make me to understand the way of Thy Precepts: so shall I talk of Thy wondrous works.... Give me understanding and I shall keep Thy Law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart…I am Thy servant; give me understanding that I may know Thy Testimonies.... The righteousness of Thy Testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding and I shall live.

Psalm 119:25-32 (MSG) I'm feeling terrible—I couldn't feel worse!
Get me on my feet again. You promised, remember?
When I told my story, you responded;
     train me well in your deep wisdom.
Help me understand these things inside and out
     so I can ponder your miracle-wonders.
My sad life's dilapidated, a falling-down barn;
     build me up again by your Word.
Barricade the road that goes Nowhere;
     grace me with your clear revelation.
I choose the true road to Somewhere,
     I post your road signs at every curve and corner.
I grasp and cling to whatever you tell me;
     God, don't let me down!
I'll run the course you lay out for me

     if you'll just show me how.

The older I grow, the more I rejoice in the Resurrection and the Life God released for me when He raised Jesus from the dead. As my strength is waning, it is of a necessity that I discover new resources for life, wisdom, understanding and, oddly enough, patience. Some of those in my generation are coming to know with a goodly measure of assurance that the Life we desperately need comes to us from the Kingdom of the Heavens! As we discover that Life, and that it is available for us now, then the will of the Lord need hold no more fear for us, nor any hesitance about embarking upon the path the Lord is laying out before us.

Isaiah 60:1-5—Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.  Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.

The Word of Isaiah calling unto us to “arise and shine” holds within it a hope that beckons us onward toward a greater fulfillment of God’s will than ever we knew before. Even I, when I begin to consider my limitations that seem to be growing greater by the day, I am drawn to remember the prophetic words that have come over me time and again through the past couple of years telling me that my greater years of usefulness in God’s Kingdom lie yet ahead of me. If I think too much of these words, I am directed toward the greater dimension of wisdom that can now be mine to leave for those who follow after. In that way, I have the encouragement that the wisdom of that Kingdom can now be spread in this present world.

LORD, my cry before You has come to be for understanding. Give me the light that comes from Your Precepts. Help me comprehend Your Law so I can walk uprightly. Bring upon me a new release of Your grace for what I am facing today. Help me give utter heed to Your Testimonies in this trial upon me.
