September 2008 Day 22

Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, THAT your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10 THAT ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till (with a view toward being ready for) the Day of Christ. 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness,
which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Day 22—Our only hope lies in the Day of the Lord.

The Word of the Lord to the Edomites was strong and seemed to offer no hope for repentance or restoration. Yet in this little one-chapter Book about the descendents of Esau there came a powerful Word about the Day of the Lord.

The Day of the Lord—it is a time of judgment and a time of mercy. It has already begun with the appearance of the Son of God Who announced, ...The Kingdom of Heaven is at handMatthew 4:17. It was confirmed when John the Baptist announced, ...Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the worldJohn 1:29. Its judgment reached culmination when Jesus cried out, ... It is finishedJohn 19:30.

John 1:29-31—The very next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and yelled out, "Here he is, God's Passover Lamb! He forgives the sins of the world! This is the man I've been talking about, 'the One who comes after me but is really ahead of me.' I knew nothing about who he was—only this: that my task has been to get Israel ready to recognize him as the God-Revealer. That is why I came here baptizing with water, giving you a good bath and scrubbing sins from your life so you can get a fresh start with God." (MSG)

Its power became available to us after He was crucified, risen and ascended to His Father’s Throne. It was then the Holy Spirit came. The judgment, mercy and power of the Day await now for anyone who, in repentance and faith, will draw nigh unto God Who loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son. That Son was Jesus. He bore within Himself the judgment of our sin and stands ready to forgive and bring us into God’s new creation.

Proverbs 4:18—“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day”.“

(MSG) 18-19The ways of right-living people glow with light;
   the longer they live, the brighter they shine.
But the road of wrongdoing gets darker and darker—
   travelers can't see a thing; they fall flat on their faces.

DEAR LORD, the sin that came upon me from my own family line got me well started toward my own life of sin. Only Your grace offered me any hope. I praise You for this. Now, LORD, may that grace move through me to demonstrate to others that the Day of Salvation is, indeed, upon us. Move in me that the Light of Your grace may be clearly seen. Help me bring light to the path on which others may to come to You.
