Abiding in Christ
...As He Brings Order to Our Chaos
THE VERSES of Psalms 9 and 10 follow the ancient Hebrew way of acrostic poetry, meaning, the first verse starts with the first letter of the alphabet, the second verse with the second letter, and so on through the entire alphabet. But, there is an irregularity in these two Psalms that indicate that they go together as one. Some letters are missing and some are out of order, like the verses pertaining to the time of intense trouble that will close out this age. In Psalm 10:3-11—there is no order to be found at all, except in the hearts of those who follow the ways of the Lord, and who cry out for His mercy. But, there is a story to follow: the determination of the wicked one to destroy the meek who shall inherit the earth.
DAY 1—aleph—Maintaining Our Praise before the Lord
- Psalm 9:1 I will praise Thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will show forth all Thy marvellous works.2 I will be glad and rejoice in Thee: I will sing praise to Thy Name, O Thou most High.
- Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my Strength and my Shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
DEAR LORD, I confess that You are my Strength and Protection in this time of trouble. I will trust You and not be afraid.
What will happen to those who refuse to receive the love of the Truth—II Thessalonians 2:7-12
DAY 2—BETH—What Happens to Our Enemies Before the Presence of the Lord
-
Psalm 9:3 When mine enemies are turned back (to reclaim what they lost to the Kingdom of Christ because of my faith and testimony), they shall fall and perish at Thy presence. 4 For Thou hast maintained my right (justice for me in the courts) and my cause (my legal suit before Heaven’s Judge); Thou satest in the Throne judging right.
-
John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear (when He shall become visibly manifest), we may have confidence (a bold freedom), and not be ashamed (dishonored) before Him at Hisccoming (His Parousi’a).
LORD, teach these in my family to abide in a living relationship with You. Teach us to overcome day by day as we move toward that great Day when all the earth shall be filled with Your glory.
Our cause maintained from the Throne of David—Isaiah 9:7
DAY 3—GIMEL—By faith, even the memory of the wicked shall be removed forever.
-
Psalm 9:5 Thou (O Lord) hast rebuked the heathen (the nations), Thou hast destroyed (exterminated) the wicked (the lawless one, the anti-Christ), Thou hast put out their name (You have wiped out the name of those who have joined forces with the anti-Christ) for ever and ever.
-
Psalm 9:5 You have punished the nations. You have destroyed evil people. You have erased their names from your book for ever and ever. NIRV®
- Proverbs 10:7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
LORD, empower us to live each day in such a way that even the memory of us will be a blessing to those who know us. Help us leave a legacy of peace and rightness for those who follow.
The overcomer has hope for eternity—Revelations 3:5
DAY 4—HE—Even the memory of the wicked shall be removed forever.
- Psalm 9:6 O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.
- Colossians 2:15 He (Christ Jesus) took away the weapons of the powers and authorities. He made a public show of them. He won the battle over them by dying on the cross.NIRV®
- I John 3:8b For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy (that He undo, make a complete reverse in) the works of the devil.
DEAR LORD, already we are seeing how You take what the enemy has done and using it for Your glory and for our own benefit. I am amazed and I praise You for what we see daily.
The Principle of the Corn of Wheat—John 12:23-36
DAY 5—VAU—God’s Throne of justice endures over all the work of the enemy.
-
Psalm 9—7 But the LORD shall endure (remain on His Throne) for ever: He hath prepared (established) His Throne for judgment (justice). 8 And He shall judge (govern) the world in righteousness, He shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness (He shall minister justice to the people with equity). 9 The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge (stronghold) in times of trouble (distress, tribulation). 10 And they that know Thy Name will put their trust in Thee: for Thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek Thee.
- Psalm 98:9 Let them sing to the Lord, because He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the nations of the world in keeping with what is right and fair.NIRV®
FATHER, what confidence You are placing in my heart for the future! I praise You that I am able to believe all the work of the enemy shall be turned to Your glory. It shall be turned for the benefit of Your people. I praise Your eternal Name!
Confidence—Psalm 96:10-13; I John 5:14
DAY 6—ZAIN—God does not ignore the outcry of the meek.
-
Psalm 9:11 Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion (the place of God’s everlasting Government): declare among the people His doings. 12 When He maketh inquisition for blood (He investigates the deaths of His people), He remembereth them: He forgetteth not the cry of the humble (Hebrew, gah-nahv, same as “meek”—God does not ignore the outcry of the meek).
FATHER, I take comfort in knowing You remain mindful of those who suffer tribulation. You are a God of justice, and You are a God of mercy.
Taking Note of Those Who Shall Inherit the Earth.—Psalms 37:9; 37:11; 37:22; 37:29; 37:34
DAY 7—CHETH—We cry for mercy in trouble; we rejoice in His salvation.
-
Psalm 9:13 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble (give attention to my affliction) which I suffer of them that hate me (that have become my enemies), Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death: 14 that I may show forth all Thy praise (glorious praise) in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in Thy salvation.
LORD, what a comfort it is to know that You are mindful of what Your people are going through at the hand of the enemy! We rejoice in Your love.
He comforts us in our tribulation—II Corinthians 1:3-7
DAY 8—TETH—The wicked one is caught in his own wicked devices.
-
Psalm 9:15 The heathen (nations) are sunk down in the pit (like a trap for catching lions) that they made: in the net which they hid (they concealed) is their own foot taken. 16 The LORD is known by the judgment which He executeth: the wicked (the lawless one, the anti-Christ) is snared in the work of his own hands. (Higgaion-technical term indicating a pause for meditation. Selah-a musical term calling for exaltation, probably for praise.)
- Psalm 7:15 He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.
FATHER, I don’t take comfort in the failure of those who have given themselves to the wicked one. But I do see it as a reason to fear the retribution of wickedness in them. Please show Your mercy toward these who have begun following the ways of the anti-Christ. Convict them. Draw them to repentance before it is too late.
A Warning against Following the Wicked One—Proverbs 26:26,27; 28:10
DAY 9—JOD—All who forget God will face an eternity without Him.
-
Psalm 9:17—The wicked (a plural form—”the wicked ones,” those who have given themselves to the anti-Christ) shall be turned into hell (sheol, the realm of the dead), and all the nations that forget God.
-
Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. 2 And (the) many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
DEAR LORD, please send the arrows of conviction to these souls I now hold before You. Draw them by Your mercy to know Your mercy and grace.
The Love that Offers Everlasting Life—John 3:16
DAY 10—CAPH—The hope of the meek shall not vanish forever.
-
Psalm 9:18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation (the hope) of the poor (gah-nahv, the meek) shall not perish for ever. 19 Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail: let the heathen(nations) be judged in Thy sight. 20 Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations may know themselves to be but men (Hebrew-enosh, mortal men).Selah
-
Hebrews 2:6 What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that Thou visitest him? 7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; Thou crownedst him with glory and honor, and didst set him over the works of Thy hands: 8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. 9 But we see Jesus...
PRECIOUS REDEEMER, I turn the eyes of my heart toward You. You are the only One in Whom we can place our hope, for this age, or for the age to come. Please send Your Spirit into the hearts of these I hold before You that they may each turn their eyes toward You.
All appear before God—Hebrews 5:10; Colossians 3:24,25
Whereas there has been an order in the Psalms to this point, from 10:2 through verse 11, no order is seen. These verses follow a critical time of trouble. The wicked one pursues the meek with a vengeance.
DAY 11—LAMED—The hope of the meek shall not vanish forever.
-
Psalm 10:1 Why standest Thou afar off, O LORD? Why hidest Thou Thyself in times of trouble? (The word trouble is the same as the trouble in Dan 12:1. It is the great tribulation of Matt 24:21) 2 The wicked (one) in his pride doth persecute (hotly pursues) the poor (the meek): let them (the wicked ones) be taken in the devices that they have imagined (in their plan to overcome the meek).
FATHER, our only hope in this time of trouble is that the eyes of our hearts be turned constantly on Your Anointed One.
He always causes us to triumph—II Corinthians 2:14-16
DAY 12—The wicked one, the anti-Christ, is full of grievous pride.
-
Psalm 10:3 For the wicked (one) boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous (those ruled by greed), whom the LORD abhorreth (despises). 4 The wicked (one), through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts (All his thoughts are: “There is no God”). 5 His ways are always grievous (twisted); Thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies (those opposing him), he puffeth at them (with the fire of a dragon).
DEAR LORD, by Your Spirit, draw our hearts ever after You. Enable us to keep the eyes of our hearts on You. Help us set examples for others to follow during these perilous times.
The end-times will be perilous—II Timothy 3:1-5
DAY 13—The hope of the wicked one is a vain hope.
-
Psalm 10:6 He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity. 7 His mouth is full of cursing (oaths) and deceit (treachery) and fraud (deception): under his tongue (behind his speech) is mischief and vanity. 8 He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages (hiding as a hunter in ambush): in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily (secretly) set against the poor (the unfortunate poor, indicating his heartless demeanor).
LORD, even before this age comes to its end, there are many heartless souls. They have taken on the disposition of the wicked one. Please move upon them with deep conviction. Let them taste of Your love and mercy—and repent.
Some religious souls follow anti-Christ—II Peter 2:1-10
DAY 14—The vain hope of the wicked one.
-
Psalm 10:9 He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor (the meek): he doth catch the poor (the meek), when he draweth him into his net. 10 He croucheth, and humbleth (he prostrates and hides) himself, that the poor (the unfortunate persons) may fall by his strong ones (the strong troops joined with him). 11 He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: He hideth His face; He will never see it. (He is so stupid as to think that God doesn’t see.)
LORD, please give these people I hold before You enough sense to know they cannot carry on with the wicked one. Greed has caught them, LORD. Open their eyes. Give them repentance.
Wisdom calls for us to turn from the way of the wicked one—Proverbs 1:20-33
God’s Order for the final days
DAY 15—KOPH—The cry of the meek arises.
- Psalm 10:12 Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble (gah-nahv, the meek). 13 Wherefore doth the wicked (the wicked one) contemn God (hold God in contempt)? He hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.
- Micah 5:9 Thine hand shall be lifted up upon Thine adversaries... all Thine enemies shall be cut off.
DEAR LORD, I cry out to You against Your adversaries that have encroached upon our lives. Please lift Your hand against them. Deliver Your people for their wickedness, for Your glory.
The most exalted One is the most humble—Philippians 2:1-11
DAY 16—RESH—A Persuasion that Will Take Us through the Time of the End
-
Psalm 10:14 Thou hast seen it; for Thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it (to make restitution) with Thy hand: the poor (the unfortunate person) committeth himself unto Thee; Thou art the Helper of the fatherless.
-
II Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day. (An alternate understanding may be seen as: “I am persuaded He is powerful to guard that which He has committed unto me for that Day.”)
FATHER, You have placed a commission upon my life. It is more than I can see to carrying out. But, gracious LORD, I have confidence You will guide me safely and wisely through the perilous times.
Hidden from my enemies in the time of trouble—Psalm 27
DAY 17—SCHIN—A Conviction that Will Take Us through the Time of the End
-
Psalm 10:15 Break Thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till Thou find none. 16 The LORD is King for ever and ever: (He has, and ever shall have, the supreme power.) the heathen (the nations) are perished out of his land. (Not one heathen family is left in the earth.)
-
Psalm 72:18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. 19 And blessed be His glorious Name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory (His reverent honor); Amen, and Amen (Let it be so! Let it be so!). 20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended (brought to a determined end. What more was there for which he could pray?)
DAY 18—Passages in which We See Anti-Christ Brought to His End
Some terms by which the anti-Christ is called, and descriptions of his defeat:
-
Genesis 3:15 (spoken to the serpent) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; it shall bruise (He shall crush) thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.

-
Daniel 7:25 And he (the little horn) shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. 26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.
-
Daniel 8:25b...he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he (the king of fierce countenance) shall be broken without hand.
-
Daniel 9—...and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate (the one who brought the desolation).
-
Daniel 11:45b...yet he (the vile person) shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
-
II Thessalonians 2:3b...for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of (the) sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is (a) God.
DEAR LORD, bring upon Your servants that operation of Your Spirit called “the discerning of Spirits.” Grant us the anointing and wisdom to lead Your people through the time of tribulation by which the wicked one hopes to wear us out. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!
