Embracing the Simplicity that Is in Christ

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST DEALT WITH THE POWER OF SIN
WITH WHICH WE ARE ALL INFECTED.
He did this to make us acceptable for God’s kingdom.

DAY 1—Christ Jesus became sin for us.

II Corinthians 5:21 For He hath made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

Isaiah 53:6b . . .and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

· LORD, it is beyond my understanding how You did it, or why. But my heart knows that You did bear my sin. Help me not to take sin lightly. Cause me to feel toward it like You do, and to love righteousness.

Taking Heed Lest Sin Return—Heb 3:12-19

DAY 2Jesus Christ took the penalty of our sin.

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us...

I John 2:2 And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

· LORD JESUS, what grace You have shown us! I receive it. There is no condemnation upon me now. I’m free! Please help me live like a person free from sin’s stronghold. Oh, how I praise You!

Walking in Liberty—Gal 5:1, 13-16

DAY 3—Jesus Christ suffered for our sin.

Isaiah 53:5a But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities...

I Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the .just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God...

· LORD, impress it upon me that You suffered for my redemption. Forgive me for ever taking it lightly. I want this to never happen again. Today I give myself over to loving You. How I praise You! And LORD, help me love all these others that You love.
The Fellowship of His Sufferings—Phil 3:7-14

DAY 4—Christ set us free from the power of sin.

Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Ezekial 16:6 And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live.

· LORD, my weakness is great. I have little ability to withstand temptation or resist evil. Therefore, I need Your help every day. As I present myself before Your Throne, please strengthen me against inner sin.

How He Has Made Us Alive, Forgiven Us and Cleansed Us—Col 2:13; Titus 3:3-5

DAY 5—The Lord Jesus took our sin to the Cross.

I Peter 2:24 Who His Own self bare our sins in His Own body on the tree...

John 19:17,18a And He bearing His cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: where they crucified Him...

LORD, keep it vivid to me how You died for me. Help me remember You hanged there as a sinner in my place. All Your modesty and rights were taken from You—for me. As I live today, help me do it as a redeemed one, belonging to You.
Revisiting Calvary—Mk 15:12-27

IN THE MID PART OF ROMANS PAUL SET FORTH CLEARLY THAT OUR SALVATION IS IN CHRIST JESUS. He set us free from sin’s power and penalty.

DAY 6—By breaking sin’s power for us, Jesus has reconciled us with His Father.

Romans 5:10 For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Colossians 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.

LORD, I’m listening. I hear Your pardoning voice. I draw close to You. Help me feel the beat of Your heart. Help me feel Your love to me. Help me become an instrument for this love to spread to others.

How the Reconciliation Spreads—II Cor 5:14-21

DAY 7—The grace of God revealed in Jesus is the power that continues to free us from sin.

Romans 5:21That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

· FATHER, please show me if I’ve taken Your grace and, in any way, made it a vain thing. I want to see the full release of Your grace. I want to be a redeemed person in whom You can rejoice. LORD, make me a trophy of Your grace.

Growing in Grace—II Pet 3:18; Jas 4:6-8

DAY 8—Baptism is my confession that I stand with Jesus in His death and resurrection.

Romans 6:3,4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

· LORD JESUS, thank You for the privilege of being identified with You in Your death, burial, and resurrection. I did this to confess that my old man was put to death when I accepted You as my Savior. Today, help me walk as a continuing testimony that you are alive in me.

Buried and Risen with Him—Col 2:9-12

DAY 9—Receiving His death and resurrection as my own sets me free from sin’s bondage.

Romans 6:5,6 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection: knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

· FATHER, help me know what Romans 6 is all about. I receive it as true that my old man was crucified with the Lord Jesus. My mind has trouble knowing this, but my heart follows Your Word and helps me believe it. Please release its reality in me.

A Testimony and a Word from Paul—Gal 2:20; 5:24-26

DAY 10Identifying with Jesus in His death has set me free from the fear of death.

Romans 6:7-9 For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him: knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over Him.

· FATHER, I am ready to know that I not only died with the Lord Jesus, but now I live with Him. Draw me into believing this completely, and to know it as a continuing reality. Manifest it through me toward those with whom I have contact today.

Seeking Things that Are Above—Col 3:1-4; Ps 16:11

DAY 11Reckoning” upon it is the key that releases me to share in the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 6:10-11 For in that He died, He died unto sin once: but in that He liveth, He liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

· FATHER, I put it down to my account that when Christ Jesus died, I died. When He was buried, I was buried. When He arose, I arose. When He ascended to Your right hand, I ascended there also. Now, please help me live in this understanding.

Living unto Him Who Died for Us—II Cor 5:14-21

DAY 12—I am now ready to yield myself to God as one who is alive from the dead.

Romans 6:12,13 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments or righteousness unto God.

· FATHER, I yield myself to You today as one that is alive from the dead. What a miracle You are working in me because of this! Now use me today as an instrument in Your hand to bring healing to some struggling soul.

Yielding Our Members to God—Rom 12:1; I Cor 6:19,20

DAY 13—In Christ my life is no longer under the control of sin, but the control of grace.

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free you shall be free indeed.

· FATHER, I rejoice in the liberation that is now mine because of Your grace. Show me all the areas of my life where this amazing grace will reach. Help me yield more and more to its power. Today, let me become a light of grace to someone walking in condemnation and fear.

Living in the Power of God’s Spirit—Gal 5:19-24

DAY 14—Has grace freed me to continue in sin?

Romans 6:15,16 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death or of obedience unto righteousness?

· LORD, my hatred for sin is increasing. I see what it has done in my life and in the lives of those I love. Now let this hatred come under the control of Your Spirit as I yield my all to You. Make me an instrument of healing and deliverance for these who are still bound in sin.

How the Anointing of God’s Spirit Responds to Righteousness—Ps 37:28; Heb 1:8,9

DAY 15—Thanks be to God! The answer is no!

Romans 6:17,18 But God be thanked that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

· O LORD, truly I am Your servant. You have loosed my bondage to sin so I can now be in bondage to You. I rejoice in this. Let my bonds to You be manifest to all.

The Desire of a Bond Servant of Christ—Col 4:1-4

DAY 16In Christ we become servants of righteousness and holiness.

Romans 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

· LORD, I want my life to be pure for You. You redeemed me from all iniquity. Let this take effect in my relationships with others. Let it have an effect on the way I conduct business. Let holiness enter the deepest parts of my soul.

God’s blessing on a Holy life—Deut 28:1-10

DAY 17—In Christ I can bear fruit unto holiness.

Romans 6:20-22 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto holiness and the end everlasting life.

· LORD, thank You for bearing long with me in my sin. Thank You for dealing with me even when I was stubborn and holding on to sin. Now I long for holiness. Let its mark be upon all the fruit of my life.

A Life that Is Above Only—Deut 28:11-14

DAY 18—In Christ I am set free from the wages of sin to receive the gift of God.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

· LORD, I love You. Simply stated, I love You with all my heart. Please keep a watch over my spirit so that no other thing can enter to steal my affection from You. If there is anything standing close to take away that love I now feel, make me aware so I can turn it over to You.

Set Free from Condemnation—Jn 5:24; Rom 5:16,18

ROMANS 8 IS A GREAT STATEMENT FOR THE SOUL LIBERATED IN CHRIST JESUS. Its Words are so powerful we should dwell in them for many days till they have laid hold on us.

DAY 19—In Christ Jesus we come under the Law of the Spirit of Life.

Romans 8:1,2 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

· FATHER, today I take my new liberty in Christ Jesus as an occasion for celebration. I celebrate Your mercy. I celebrate Your longsuffering. I celebrate Your amazing grace. Let everyone around me join in this celebration.

A Great Cause for Celebration—Isa 38:17-20

DAY 20—The Lord Jesus did for me what the Law could not do.

Romans 8:3,4 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

· LORD, please work in me the righteousness to which You called me. What I could not do before, do it through me now. Love others through me. Reach out through me. Heal through me. Draw others to Yourself through me.

A New Walk—I Jn l:6,7; 2:6; II Jn 6; 11I Jn 4

DAY 21—In Christ I have a new way of thinking.

Romans 8:5,6 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

· LORD, I am more than ready for a new way of thinking. I’ve had enough bitterness, resentment, and complaining. I renounce it all. Release in my mind a new way of thinking that rejoices in helping others and that finds new ways of communicating life instead of death.

A New Mind—Phil 2:5; I Pet 1:13-16

DAY 22—I reject my old way of thinking because it cannot please God.

Romans 8:7-9 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the Law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit or God, he is none of His.

· LORD, I want to think in line with Your Kingdom. Work today in my mind. Cause me to think, react, and respond in a way that glorifies You and that causes others to want to know You.

A New Circumcision—Col 2:9-14

DAY 23—In Christ I have a new way of living.

Romans 8:10,11 And if Christ be in you the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you. He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you.

· LORD, I am ready for You to bring me forward in the new way of life the Lord Jesus is making possible. I renounce my old tired way. I renounce complaining. I put away grumbling. I open myself to the peace and joy Your Spirit brings. Let it spread through me to others.

A New and Living Way—Heb 10:19-25

DAY 24—In Christ I’m set free from the rule of flesh to be governed by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:12-14 Therefore brethren we are debtors, not to the flesh to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

· LORD, I thank You that I cannot find my own way through this day. Its difficulties call for more strength and wisdom than I by nature have. I wait on You now for the guidance I believe You are ready to give me.

A Guide to Lead Us out of Trouble—Ps 31:1-5

DAY 25—In Christ I have become an heir in the household of God.

Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Galatians 4:6,7 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts crying. Abba, Father, Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

· FATHER, help me know and understand my place in Your household. With humility, I wait before You. Thank You for receiving me to so high a place.

Walking Worthy of Our Calling—Eph 4:1-6

DAY 26—In Christ I suffer but I also share His glory.

Romans 8:16,17 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God: and if children then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.

· FATHER, help me grasp what it means to be an heir in the family. Even more, help me know what it means to be a joint-heir with Christ and suffer with Him. Give me the grace and the wisdom to walk in this high place.

How Suffering Increases Our Value in the Kingdom—Rom 8:18; II Cor 1:3-6
