DAY 14—We see mercy in God’s forgiveness. |
It is only as we have forgiven others that we are able to receive the mercy of the forgiveness that God offers us.
Matthew 6:12—And forgive us our debts, as we forgive (as we have forgiven) our debtors.
[LRT] And, dismiss us from the guilt of our failures toward You, as we also have dismissed the guilt of those who have failed us.
Matthew 6:14,15—For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
(MSG) "In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.”
Learning to forgive those who do wrong against us is one of the most difficult lessons to learn, as we are becoming children of His Kingdom. We have Jesus both as our Redeemer and as our example. As we move through the time of tribulation—the pressure that will prepare us to abide children of God’s Kingdom—one of our greater lessons will be that of learning to forgive those who offend us. And, let us be certain of this: the anti-Christ will throw many things our way that will require our forgiveness.
LORD, I think I have forgiven everyone who ever offended me, but I can’t be sure. Sometimes You show me I’ve been hiding things in my heart, and then forgetting about them. If there is something offensive in my spirit that offends Your Spirit, please let me know. As I walk in Your will, as I represent Your Kingdom, I want my spirit to be free from all deceit.
Because of God’s grace, we put away things offensive to the ways of His Kingdom.—I Peter 2:1-3
