The Continuing Work of God’s Spirit
God ’s Spirit Continues His Work after Sin Came.
The serpent of old maintains his determination to corrupt us.
He is ever on the watch to see who and when he might attack any one of us.
For some days we will pray that each family unit will be safe.
DAY 1 —Man was not complete being alone. Therefore God made him a suitable helper.—Gen 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him (a helper suitable for him).—Matt 19:5,6 For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave (be joined) to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder (separate them one from the other).wFATHER‚ Please bring healing to these in my family whose marriages are under attack from the enemy. Oh, HOLY SPIRIT, brood over these homes, over these individuals! Let the spirit of divorce be driven back from these couples. And, LORD … Here is my family …A good wife is a valuable treasure to any man. —Pro 12:4;Pro 19:14;Pro 31:10-12
DAY 2 —The woman God made was taken out of Adam, bone of his bone, flesh of his flesh.—Gen 2:21-23 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, MADE HE A WOMAN, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
wDEAR LORD, I praise Your holy Name for the unions that have come down though my family line. While there has been imperfection in all of us, I acknowledge that You planned my ancestry. I confess that I am not an accident. My life was ordained for Your purpose. Yet I know I have been born into a line of sinners, therefore I thank You for Your grace that has brought me, and so many of the others, to Your side.
Sin has passed upon us all from generation to generation —Ps 58:3;Rom 5:12;Eph 2:3
DAY 3 —While sin has come over on all our families, we praise the Lord for the love of God that is giving us hope in Christ Jesus.—Gen 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.—Ps 25:3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.—Rom 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed…wFATHER, how far we have fallen from innocence! Sin has brought shame and a degraded life-style on many in my family line. O, DEAR GOD, there is no hope for any of us except in Your mercy. I praise You that Your mercies are everlasting. Oh, how I thank You! Let Your love and grace reach these in my family whose names I now call before You: When grace has come upon one member of a family, it may well pass to all. —Isa 45:22;Acts 16:31<![if !supportEmptyParas]> <![endif]>
DAY 4 —Only the grace and power of God are greater than Satan’s dark plans against us. —Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle (cunning and sly) than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?—II Cor 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ (from being single minded in Christ).wFATHER‚ please show Your saving grace and power in my family. Keep a guard on our hearts to keep us from being double minded. Give mea heart that is fixed on You and on serving You. Please move on these I name who are prone to wander. Bring deep conviction on us all. By God ’s grace and power we can all become overcomers. —Rom 8:38,39; Rom 16:20; Rev 12:11
Those who love the Word of God and give themselves to its light can foil the schemes of the enemy.
It is a good thing to keep God ’s Word always at the top of what we read and study.
DAY 5 —Because Eve was uncertain of God’s Word, she fell prey to the serpent.—Gen 3:2-4 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch It, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die …—John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own (lying is his own native language): for he is a liar, and the father of it.
wLORD‚ bring a discerning Spirit among us so we will not be deceived any more by the lies of Satan. And, DEAR LORD, wherein I have been deceived, bring upon me the cleansing work of Your Spirit of Truth. Move in my family, and in these others I hold before You. Set us free from the lies that have held such deep control in us.
The admonition is that we become strong to withstand the enemy. —Eph 6:11,12; I Pet 5:8
DAY 6 —The deception to which Eve opened herself brought all humanity under deception.—Gen 3:5,6 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.—Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.wDEAR LORD, I praise You for the grace that has overcome the sin that came on me, and on these, —through Adam’s sin. Please let my life, and the lives of these I hold before You, be testimonies to the power of Your grace.
In the Redemption sin loses it power. —Rom 3:23-25
Sin – even the contemplation of it – will leave its mark on our inner man. What we are inside cannot be hidden from God.But, it is possible to be free from the power and open top God.
DAY 7 —Submitting to the deception of Satan will cause us to have fear. Only the light of God ’s presence can show us the way to freedom.—Gen 3:7, 8 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made them-selves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst thetrees of the garden.—Jer 23:24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.—Luke 12:2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not beknown.wFATHER‚ deliver these, —and me, —from the deception that makes us think we can hide our wrongs from You. Shine Your light upon us. Oh, let the light You shine upon us be a cleansing light! Make us pure in Your sight. Please do this in our leaders, —our fellowship, —my family …When we come to the light, we find full and sweet communion with God. —Eph 5:8;I John 1:5-7
DAY 8 —The love of God that discovered our sin has now provided a covering for our sin. —Gen 3:9-11 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?—Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see.wFATHER‚I am confessing that Your mercy and grace are at work in me. You are setting me free from fear. I can now rejoice in Your presence. And, Oh, DEAR LORD GOD, You are opening my eyes to see like I never saw before! I rejoice at what I am beholding in Your Word of truth. The Lord stands at the door of our lives knocking. —Rev 3:14-22
DAY 9 —When persons submit to the temptation of the serpent, they soon take on his chief trait of character, that of an accuser. —Gen 3:12,13 And the man said, The woman whom Thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.—Pro 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.—I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
wLORD, I thank You for setting me free from being an accuser. There is no person on whom I can lay the blame for this wrong I have done. I cannot even blame my own weakness. It is out-right sin that laid hold on me. With brokenness, I confess it all to You. I am ready to receive cleansing.
Oh, the blessings of the man whose transgressions are covered. —Ps 32:1-11
The curse of sin brought pain, but the Lord Jesus has brought the promise of joy. He has also given us His peace and His righteousness. And, He has opened the way for us to come before His Father.
DAY 10 — God placed His curse on the serpent a curse that had the strength of a covenant.—Gen 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life …—Isa 65:25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: anddust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.—Rev 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where thebeast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.wFATHER‚I am in awe at how You dealt with the serpent. Please let Your Holy Spirit work in me a discerning of spirits so I’ll not become caught in any trap he might set for me. Here are these people that I love. I think they may even now be caught by him. Please extend toward them Your grace that will lead them to repentance and freedom.Astounding blessing will come on God ’s people who obey Him. —Deut 28:1-13
DAY 11 —The following verse may be called the Protevangelion, the first Word in the Bible giving Hope of the Good News of the Gospel. —Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; it (He) shall bruise thy head (a mortal wound), and thou shalt bruise His heel (a wound that not only will heal, but provide healing for others).—Isa 53:12 Therefore will I divide Him (the promised Messiah) a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He hath poured out His soul unto death: and He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.—Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are par- takers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy (render powerless) him that had the power of death, that is, the devil …GREAT LORD GOD, what a wonderful salvation! You have stripped our enemy of all his authority. You have made him hopeless. You have brought him to nothing —all through Your Only Begotten Son, —Jesus Christ, —our Lord! Oh, I ask You: help me live out of His fullness, —by Your grace! Christ Jesus has become our merciful High Priest. —Heb 4:12-16
DAY 12 —The curse of sin brings pain, but under the New Covenant there is great hope.—Gen 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.—Jer 30:7 Ala! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even The Time of Jacob's Trouble (the great tribulation); but he (the true Israel) shall be saved out of it.—Rom 8:2, 22 Because the creature (all creation) itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of (the) corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain (as a woman in travail to give birth) together until now (with the expectation of deliverance).wFATHER‚ I thank You for the mother You gave me. She was a “gift ” to me… I thank you for the people to whom I belong. Thank You for the grace You gave my mother to bear me. Please make me a blessing to her in her remaining years. Make mea blessing to some older people who are lonely. Even though the woman was first in transgression, she was also first to behold Salvation ’s promise. —Matt 28:1-10
Through the Disobedience of Adam, death reigned; by the obedience of Jesus Christ, grace reins. Those who admit their sinfulness and receive Christ’s death for their redemption come to know grace.
DAY 13 —The transgression of Adam brought a curse upon the earth, but the obedience of the Lord Jesus brought gladness into the world.—Gen 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hasteaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;—I Sam 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, He hath also rejected thee from being king.—John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shallhave tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have over- come the world. FATHER‚ I have known rebellion. I have transgressed Your Laws. I have deliberately walked in paths that grieved You. Yet, You have loved me and drawn me with a cord of grace that has bound me to Your heart. Oh, but I love You!!!Righteousness and peace meet each other in Christ Jesus. —Ps 85:8-10;Isa 9:6,7;Phil 4:7
From this point, I suggest that you read Genesis, Chapters 1 thru 3 several times. These chapters prepare us for the great unfolding of Salvation’s drama we will see as we yet regard the work of God’s Spirit in the first five Books of the Bible, written mostly by Moses. There is not a great deal of reference to the Holy Spirit directly, but we will see the evidence of His great work, and His powerful influence.
