The Strong Covenant Promise of Psalm 2

Day 1—In the Covenant God made with David we find the promise that his Kingdom would be established forever.

II Samuel 7:12I will set up (raise up) thy Seed (the promised Messiah) after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish His Kingdom. ...13) He shall build an house for My Name, and I will establish the Throne of His Kingdom for ever.

Acts 2:29 — (Peter, the Day of Pentecost:) Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30) Therefore being a Prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his Throne; 31) he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ...

PRECIOUS REDEEMER, my heart is in awe at Your faithfulness. There are many things I don’t yet understand about Your Kingdom, but it is beginning to dawn upon me, like the morning sun, that Your Kingdom is coming, even now, in my own life! Oh, Hallelujah!

We learn to pray the Kingdom prayer.— Matthew6:9-13

Day 2—God’s Covenant Promise to David was established further
in the Words of Psalm 2.

Psalm 2:6—(The Lord God speaks:) Yet have I set My King upon My holy hill of Zion.   7) (Messiah speaks:) I will declare the Decree: the LORD hath said unto Me, Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee. 8) Ask of Me, and I shall give Thee the heathen (the nations) for Thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession. 9) Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

FATHER, draw my heart to Your Throne. Draw the hearts of these souls I hold dear. Teach us what it means to let You rule in our lives.

Jesus passed the Covenant Promise to the overcomers.—Revelations 2:26,27

Day 3—The Prophet David issued a fivefold admonition to the rulers
of the earth to submit to the rule of God’s Kingdom.

Psalm 2:10—Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11) Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.  12) Kiss the Son (be reconciled with the Christ), lest He be angry, and ye perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him.

DEAR LORD, as I hold my family before Your Throne today, please let the admonitions of this Scripture be born in their hearts. Let Your Spirit bring the conviction necessary. Let their reconciliation with You bring about a new way of living that will glorify You and make them useful in Your Kingdom.

The Holy Spirit is the One Who convicts.—John 16:8-11

Day 4—Four Psalms that follow Psalm 2 are prayers that
relate to the Covenant Promise.

Psalms 3:1-5—Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. 2) Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God.  3) But Thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my Glory, and the Lifter up of mine head.   4) I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and He heard me out of His Holy Hill (of Zion).  5) I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

DEAR FATHER, what a rest has entered my soul since I’ve begun knowing the rule of Your Kingdom in my life! As trouble all around us increases, please help me to know that You are our shield and glory. Let me impart to these I name before You the strength and faithful-ness that You are placing within to my heart. Even now, I lift up the eyes of my heart to behold the glory of Your Government in Zion.

Zion is the longed for joy of the whole earth. —Psalm 48:1-3

Day 5—Because we have embraced God’s Kingdom,

we are learning to rest in His peace.

Psalm 4:1-5—Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: Thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer, 2) O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn My glory into shame? How long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing (deception)? 3) But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for Himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto Him. 4) Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. 5) Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD....6b) LORD, lift Thou up the light of Thy countenance upon us.

LORD, knowing Your Kingdom, and its rule over my affairs, has brought a deep peace to my soul. As I, and my family, are walking through this trial, please strengthen us with gladness. Let the light of Your presence come upon us as a family. Let its testimony spread to other families. Give us grace to bear what is ahead.

The Lord is our help and our shield.—Psalm 33:16-22

Day 6—Those who know God as their King have
reason to rejoice.

Psalm 5:1—Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. 2) Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto Thee will I pray.... 11) But let all those that put their trust in Thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because Thou defendest them: let them also that love Thy Name be joyful in Thee.

Psalm 35:9—And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in His salvation.

MY LORD and MY KING, I rejoice in the salvation that You have brought unto my household. Please open the eyes of the heart in each one that they might come to know the fullness of Your Kingdom’s protection and provision.

With great satisfaction in the Lord, we rejoice.—Psalm 63:3-7

Day 7—When we are weak and our enemies pursue us;

We can find help in God’s Kingdom.

Psalm 6:2—Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed....8) Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping. 9) The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer. 10) Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

FATHER, there are times when I feel so weak that my only hope is in Your mercy. But, my confidence in You is growing day by day. I praise You for Your faithfulness to my family, and these my friends. Oh, I bless Your Name!

Prayers from David to Help Us in Our Supplication—Psalm 55:1, 17, 22, 23

Day 8—The Government of God’s Kingdom shall reach into all the nations of the earth.

Psalm 22:27-28—All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee. 28) For the Kingdom is the LORD’s: and He is the Governor among the nations.

Isaiah 52:10—The LORD hath made bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

LORD JESUS, the words of commission You gave to Your disciples have been laying hold on my heart. Please help me understand my responsibility toward getting the Gospel of the Kingdom to the nations. Stir these in our fellowship that their hearts may become faithful toward their responsibility.

Reviewing the Great Commission, its words become written in our hearts.
—Matthew 28:18-20

Day 9—A Maschil Psalm—

A Great Psalm of Instruction about Praise and the Nations

Psalm 47:1-7—O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. 2) For the LORD most high is terrible; He is a great King over all the earth. 3) He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet. 4) He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom He loved. 5) God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet. 6) Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises. 7) For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding (maschil, a Hebrew word meaning instruction). 8) God reigneth over the heathen (over the nations)...

FATHER, teach the people with whom we worship to praise You with understanding. Bring revelation and truth into our midst that we might know how to bring down the principalities and powers that oppose You from the heavens.

Principalities, powers, thrones and dominions were created by Christ and for Him.
—Colossians 1:16-18

Day 10—A Psalm of Praise from One Whose Heart is Established with
the Lord

Psalm 57:7-11—My heart is fixed (firmly established), O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. 8) Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early. 9) I will praise Thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto Thee among the nations. 10) For Thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and Thy Truth unto the clouds. 11) Be Thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let Thy glory be above all the earth.

DEAR LORD, search through my spirit and my soul to see if there yet remains in me some thing that opposes Your Kingdom. Let the rule of Your Kingdom become so settled in me that nothing can rise up from me to cause grief to Your Spirit. Let Your Light shine forth from my countenance for Your glory.

A Cry for Mercy when Calamities Assail—Psalm 57:1-6

Day 11—A Prayer for God’s Saving Health to Be Known
Among All Nations

Psalm 67:1-7—God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause His face to shine upon us; 2) that Thy way may be known upon earth, Thy saving health among all nations. 3) Let the people praise Thee, O God; let all the people praise Thee. 4) O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for Thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. 5) Let the people praise Thee, O God; let all the people praise Thee. 6) Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. 7) God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

FATHER, DEAREST FATHER! Here I call these nations before Your Throne. I call the United States to come to Your merciful judgment. Stir us to seek Your face. Let the believers in Sudan who suffer find Your protection. Let the principalities that oppose You be brought to nothing so the righteous government of Your Kingdom may come to its rule in these nations I now name before You. In the Name of Your Son, Jesus, I pray.

A confession of Faith for the Nations—Psalm 86:9

Psalm 72 contains one of the most powerful Messianic Revelations in the Bible. Our attention is drawn to it as we find that the Hymn “Jesus Shall Reign” is based on its revelation. Following, we use the New International  Reader’s Version with its 4th grade reading level.

Day 12— David prays that the Son of God’s Kingdom shall reign peacefully and rightly.

Psalm 72:1 God, give the King the ability to judge fairly. He is Your royal Son. Help Him to do what is right. 2) Then He will rule Your people in the right way. He will be fair to those among Your people who are hurting. 3) The mountains and the hills will produce rich crops, because the people will do what is right. 4) The King will stand up for those who are hurting. He will save the children of those who are in need.NIRV®

DEAR LORD, You are the King of my life, of my family, of all my business. I praise You for Your faithfulness that flows like a river through all our affairs. Forgive us for the times we were anxious and worried when we could have just simply trusted You. Oh, but You abide faithful! I praise You for drawing us into Your Kingdom.

God blesses those who care for the needy.—Psalm 41:1-3

Day 13—A Revelation as to how Far God’s Kingdom Will Extend

Psalm 72:5—He will rule as long as the sun shines and the moon gives its light. He will rule for all time to come. 6) He will be like rain falling on the fields. He will be like showers watering the earth. 7) Godly people will do well as long as He rules. They will have more than they need as long as the moon lasts. 8) He will rule from ocean to ocean. His kingdom will reach from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.NIRV®

LORD, make Your rule firm in my life today. Search my heart, Oh, LORD! Let nothing remain in me that will hinder the work of Your Kingdom as it spreads among the nations. Make me, and these dear ones, pure in heart, in motive and in action, as You prepare us for the Day when You will judge all nations.

Hindrances to Inheriting the Kingdom—Ephesians 5:3-5

Day 14—The conviction of our hearts is that the Bedouins, the Arab nations,  will acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ.

[Please order our book entitled Hagar, Outraged Mother of the Arab World. It offers understanding of the Arab people and the intention of the Lord God regarding them.]

Psalm 72:9 The desert tribes (the Bedouins of the desert) will bow down to Him. His enemies will lick the dust. 10) The kings of Tarshish and of places far away will bring Him gifts. The kings of Sheba and Seba will give Him presents. 11) All kings will bow down to Him.  All nations will serve Him. 12) People who are in need will cry out, and He will save them. He will save those who are hurting. They don’t have anyone else who can help them. 13) He will take pity on those who are weak and in need. He will save them from death.NIRV®

DEAR FATHER, send the convicting power of Your Spirit upon the nations of the Middle East. Let those who have refused to acknowledge Jesus Christ as Your Son come to the knowledge of Your Truth. Let the Desire of all nations become known in the midst of those who have not yet bowed before Him.

Those who thirst like the tribes of the desert will discover the Water of life.
—Revelations 22:17; John 4:10-14

Day 15—David has prayed for His greater Son, The Lord Jesus Christ.

Psalm 72:17—May the King’s Name be remembered forever.  May His fame last as long as the sun shines. All nations will be blessed because of Him. They will call Him blessed. 18) Give praise to the Lord God, the God of Israel. Only He can do wonderful things. 19) Give praise to His glorious Name forever. May His glory fill the whole earth.  Amen and Amen. 20) The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, end here.NIRV®

HEAVENLY FATHER, we have lacked too much in understanding. Please send the working of Your Spirit upon Your people to guide us into the Truth that Jesus promised. Especially send this upon those who minister Your Word. Bring understanding to these whose names I call before Your Throne.

Those who thirst like the tribes of the desert will discover the Water of life.
Revelations 22:17; John 4:10-14

Day 16—The words of this Psalm point us to the Spiritual Warfare Paul teaches in Ephesians 6:10-18.

Psalm 149:4—For the LORD taketh pleasure in His people: He will beautify the meek with salvation. 5) Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. 6) Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand; 7) to execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; 8) to bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; 9) to execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all His saints. Praise ye the LORD.

GREAT REDEEMER, draw Your people before Your Throne as You prepare us for the spiritual warfare we are to face as this age comes to its end. Teach us what it means to reign with You. Teach us how we are to bring down the spirits that oppose Your Kingdom among the nations.

The Scripture that Leads Us into the Spiritual Battles We Are to Face out
among the Nations—Ephesians 6:10-18

DAY 17—A Final Hymn of Praise

(The Hebrew word for praise (halal) occurs 13 times in this Psalm. Thirteen is the number of the evil one. This Psalm is a celebration after all evil has been brought down through the triumph of the Lord.)

Psalm 150:1—1Praise ye the LORD..

2Praise God in His sanctuary:

3praise Him in the firmament of His power.

2)4Praise him for His mighty acts:

5praise Him according to His excellent greatness.

3) 6Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet:

7praise Him with the psaltery and harp.

4) 8Praise him with the timbrel and dance:

9praise Him with stringed instruments and organs.

5) 10Praise Him upon the loud cymbals:

11praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals.

6) Let every thing that hath breath

12praise the LORD.

13Praise ye the LORD.

  • HEAVENLY FATHER, I praise Your holy Name! I praise You for the mercy You have shown toward me and my family. I praise You for the Holy Spirit You have sent to dwell in us. I praise You for the beauty of the world that has opened to my soul since You saved me. I praise You for the privilege You have granted us to come before Your Throne of grace. I praise You for choosing us to be Your dwelling place.

The revelation of some truth is so high it can only be sung.
This Ephesians passage, with the highest of Truth,
is thought to be a hymn from the early Church.—Ephesians 1:10-12
